Celebrating Black and Brown Birthing Experiences

On February 23, 2025, we gathered for The Black Birth Collection, a powerful celebration of Black and Brown birth workers, families, and advocates in Milwaukee. This event was more than just a gathering—it was a movement to uplift, educate, and connect our community while addressing the ongoing disparities in maternal and infant health.

With over 26 incredible vendors—including Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Diaper Mission, Wisconsin Doulas of Color Collective, and Mothers’ Milk Bank—plus the support of generous sponsors like The Honey Pot Company, Mixed MKE, TK Event Styling, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, and Summit Credit Union, the day was filled with resources, empowerment, and community care.

Attendees had access to valuable support services, hands-on education, and essential products that directly benefit birthing families. We also distributed 100 gift bags packed with essentials, including a complete product line from The Honey Pot Co, ensuring that families left not only with knowledge but with tangible resources to support their journey. In addition, our community came together for a clothing drive hosted by Kilam’s Gift Exchange, ensuring that families in need had access to quality maternity and baby essentials.

Self-care and healing were central themes of the day, and Cierra Sutton’s Gentle Family Flow Yoga session offered a space for relaxation and connection. Parents and children alike moved through gentle stretches and breathwork techniques, creating moments of peace, flexibility, and mindfulness.

What Families Experienced:

  • Guided movement to ease tension and promote flexibility

  • Breathwork techniques for relaxation and stress relief

  • A supportive environment for parents and children to connect

  • A post-session reflection to encourage mindfulness in daily life

One of the most impactful moments of the day was our panel discussion, led by Stephanie Crosley, featuring leading voices in maternal health:
