Celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week: For Us, By Us

Black Breastfeeding Week is here! For me, it’s more than just a week on the calendar, it’s personal.

When I think about breastfeeding, I don’t just think about my own journey. I think about my circle, my village. The moms I text when I’m exhausted. The ones I’ve laughed and cried with. The ones who show up for their babies in big and small ways every. single. day.

This year, I wanted to show up differently, I wanted to shine a light on some of them. The photos you’ll see are of my friends, black moms who are out here doing the work of nourishing, loving, and raising their little ones. Each picture tells its own story: late nights, long days, moments of joy, and moments of pushing through.

Breastfeeding as a Black woman isn’t always simple. Sometimes we’re up against stigma, lack of support, or just plain exhaustion. But we keep going. We lean on each other. We remind ourselves and each other that this is part of our story, our heritage, and that our babies deserve this kind of love poured into them.

I’m so proud of my friends and family. I’m proud of us. I’m proud that we can look back one day and know we were part of changing the narrative for Black moms and babies.

As you scroll through these photos, I hope you see what I see: strength, softness, joy, and love that runs DEEP. This is what Black Breastfeeding Week means to me. Enjoy.
